TransCore RFID Sticker Tags & Readers
A TransCore sticker tag is a thin adhesive RFID transponder that goes on a vehicle's windshield. A reader at the gate picks it up as the car approaches, and the gate opens without anyone touching a remote, a keypad or a card. No battery in the tag, nothing for the driver to do.
This is the standard system on gated communities, apartment parking, industrial yards, truck terminals and any entrance where you want vehicles identified rather than people. TransCore — sometimes written Trans Core — is the company behind most of the toll-road transponders in North America, and the same technology runs private gates.
Which tag do I need?
Tags differ by where they mount and whether they are battery powered. Start with the vehicle.

Metallised windshields are the number one cause of a tag that does not read. Many modern vehicles have a metallic or heated windshield coating that blocks UHF signal. Most have a small uncoated window behind the mirror — that is where the tag goes. If there is no clear area, use the external mini tag or a headlight tag instead.
Where does the sticker tag go?
Inside the windshield, behind the rear-view mirror, close to the centre of the glass. Clean the area first — the adhesive is permanent and the tag is destroyed if you try to remove and reapply it, which is deliberate, so a tag cannot be moved between vehicles.
Keep it clear of any metallic tint band along the top of the glass, and away from other transponders. If the vehicle already carries a toll tag, mount the gate tag a few inches away so the two do not interfere.
Battery or non-battery?
Non-battery (passive) tags draw their power from the reader's signal. Nothing to run out, indefinite life, shorter read range. Sticker tags are all passive.
Battery tags broadcast actively and read at much longer range — useful on a fast approach, a wide lane, or a truck entrance where the reader is set well back. They have a finite life; the AT5414 is rated at 8 years.
Hard tags — metal mount and access control
Where a sticker will not work — equipment, trailers, containers, metal surfaces — these mount rigidly instead.

Readers
A tag is only half the system. The reader at the gate has to speak the same protocol as the tag — get this wrong and nothing works.

Protocol match is the thing to get right. eGo Plus sticker tags need a reader that speaks eGo or SeGo. An ATA-only reader will not see them. If you are adding tags to an existing installation, tell us the reader model before ordering tags — it takes one minute and it is the difference between working and not.

Common questions
What is a TransCore sticker tag? A thin adhesive RFID transponder for a vehicle windshield. A reader at the gate identifies the vehicle as it approaches and opens the gate — no remote, no card, nothing for the driver to do.
Where do I stick it? Inside the windshield, behind the rear-view mirror, near the centre of the glass. Clean the surface first. The adhesive is one-use by design.
Can I move a tag to another car? No. Sticker tags are built to be destroyed on removal, so a credential cannot be passed between vehicles. That is a security feature, not a defect.
My tag stopped reading. Usual causes in order: a metallised or heated windshield, the tag mounted too far from the reader's zone, a second transponder too close, or a reader antenna that has drifted out of alignment.
Does the tag need a battery? Sticker tags do not. Some hard tags do, for longer read range.
How long do tags last? Passive tags have no defined life. Battery tags do — the AT5414 is rated at 8 years.
Will these work with my existing reader? Only if the protocols match. eGo Plus tags need an eGo or SeGo reader; an ATA-only reader will not see them. Tell us your reader model and we will confirm.
Do I need to register the tags? Tags are enrolled in your access control system like any other credential — the reader passes the ID through to the controller. There is no toll-road account involved for private gate use.
How many can I buy? Some tags have minimum order quantities — the AT5414 is 100, several of the Infinity and DoorKing tags are 50. Call us for community-wide quantities and we will quote.
