Hinges for driveway, estate and commercial swing gates, plus the bearings and torsion components that go with them. A swing gate hinge carries the entire weight of the gate on two points, so it is usually what fails first on a heavy gate — and a binding hinge is what drags an operator into an early grave.
Measure your hinge gap before you order. The hinge gap is the clearance between the gate frame and the post. It is fixed by the hinge design, not adjustable on site, so a hinge with the wrong gap will not fit the opening you already have. Every hinge below lists its gap where the manufacturer publishes one.
Match on three things, in this order: the gap you have, the weight of the gate, and the material of the gate and posts.
| Part | Material | Size | Hinge gap | Capacity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BHSQ6 | Steel body, 5/8" stainless pins | 6" tall, square | 2" offset | 600 lb |
| BHSQ8 | Steel body | 8" x 2" square | 2-1/2" | 1,200 lb per pair |
| BHRD7-2-1/2 | Steel, 1-1/4" pins | 7" tall, 2-1/2" body dia. | 3-3/4" offset | 2,000 lb |
| Power Hinge | Cold rolled steel | Block 3" x 2-1/4" x 1-1/2" | Min. 1-1/2" gate frame | 3,000 lb per pair |
| Power Hinge 2 | Half aluminum, half steel | — | Gate clears the post by design | 1,000 lb per pair |
| Power Hinge 3 | All aluminum | — | Gate clears the post by design | 1,000 lb per pair |
| 1200-019 | Sealed bearing, incl. bracket | Round or square frames | Not published | 2,000 lb |

Weld-on barrel hinges with ball bearings, for steel gates and posts. The gap figure is an offset — the distance the hinge sets the gate frame off the post.
| Part Number | Description | Height | Hinge gap | Capacity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BHSQ6 | Square barrel hinge (BLCS6), steel body, 5/8" stainless pins | 6" | 2" offset | 600 lb |
| BHSQ8 | Heavy-duty square barrel hinge (BLCS8-AS), 8" x 2" steel body. One pair per gate leaf | 8" | 2-1/2" | 1,200 lb per pair |
| BHRD7-2-1/2 | Round barrel hinge, 2-1/2" body diameter, steel 1-1/4" pins | 7" | 3-3/4" offset | 2,000 lb |
All three use double 5/8" ball bearings and a 3/4" solid stainless steel shaft, ground and tempered, with self-lubricating operation and no grease fittings. What separates them is the material — and with it, the weight they carry. Each is sold as one pair, which is one gate leaf; a bi-parting pair of gates needs two sets.
| Part Number | Material | Use on | Capacity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Power Hinge | Cold rolled steel throughout | Steel gates. Designed for a minimum 1-1/2" gate frame | 3,000 lb per pair |
| Power Hinge 2 | Half aluminum, half steel | Aluminum gates on steel posts | 1,000 lb per pair |
| Power Hinge 3 | All aluminum | Aluminum gates on aluminum posts | 1,000 lb per pair |
The three are close in price and a long way apart in capacity. The steel Power Hinge carries 3,000 lb per pair; both aluminum versions carry 1,000 lb. Choose on the material of your gate and posts first, then check the weight — not the other way round. All three are designed so the gate never strikes the post through its swing.
Pivot hinges with sealed bearings for round or square gate frames. Each includes its mounting bracket and hardware, and two are required per gate.
| Part Number | Description | Capacity |
|---|---|---|
| 1200-019 | Sealed bearing hinge, bracket and hardware included | 2,000 lb |
| 1200-039 | Sealed bearing hinge, bracket and hardware included | 3,000 lb |
For gates that must rise as they open, or that need a low-friction pivot under continuous load.
| Part Number | Description | Capacity |
|---|---|---|
| SWG606 | Uphill gate hinge set. Steel, 1/2" thick weldable plates, bronze bearings, 3/4" diameter steel hinge bolt. Up to 15% lift — for gates swinging onto rising ground, or heavy high-cycle gates | 1 ton per set |
| 800-83-10 | Ramset uphill gate hinges, 3/4" plate | Call to confirm |
| SWG600 | Needle bearing hinge. Steel construction, high-grade needle bearings, self-aligning bearing case, 1" diameter solid bar attachments, grease zerk fitting. Suits a 4" x 4" post. Designed for continuous operation | 1 ton |
Working out your lift. Measure the rise across the gate's swing arc, not the slope of the whole driveway. SWG606 gives up to 15% lift; if your ground rises more than that through the arc, the gate needs regrading or a different opening design rather than a taller hinge.
Replacement bearings and torsion parts for DoorKing swing gate hardware. If the hinge body is sound but the gate has developed play or noise, the bearing is usually the part you need rather than a whole hinge.
| Part Number | Description |
|---|---|
| 1200-009 | Flange hinge bearing assembly |
| 1200-010 | Replacement hinge bearing |
| 1200-010 | Hinge bearing (callout 31 listing) |
| 1203-084 | 1203 torsion rod assembly |
| 2600-299 | 2600 additional torsion rods |

| Symptom | Usual cause | What to look at |
|---|---|---|
| Gate sags and drags at the latch end | Hinge under-rated for the gate | Move up a capacity band — 1200-039 or the steel Power Hinge carry 3,000 lb |
| New hinge will not fit the opening | Wrong hinge gap for the existing frame-to-post clearance | Measure the gap and match it in the chart above — gap is not adjustable |
| Squeal or grinding through the swing | Dry or failed bearing | 1200-010 replacement bearing, or 1200-009 flange assembly |
| Operator strains, stalls or trips its overload | Binding hinge, not a weak operator | Free the gate by hand first; if it is stiff, the hinge is the fault |
| Gate catches on rising ground as it opens | Standard hinge on an uphill swing | SWG606 gives up to 15% lift |
| Aluminum gate hinge failing early | Aluminum hinge asked to carry a steel gate's weight | Aluminum Power Hinges are rated 1,000 lb per pair, not 3,000 |
| Play or knock at the pivot | Worn bearing or torsion component | 1200-010 bearing, 1203-084 or 2600-299 torsion parts |
