LiftMaster 81602 — the Contractor / Basic Series DC chain drive garage door opener with battery backup and built-in Wi-Fi, sold from 2021 to 2025 as the head unit with the one-piece T-rail ordered to door height. Soft start and stop, a myQ connection without a gateway, Bluetooth setup, the 485LM battery so the door works through a power cut, and the Security+ 2.0 radio with the yellow learn button. It was the builder's and installer's workhorse chain drive and there are a great many of them on doors today.
LiftMaster discontinued the 81602 in September 2025. The replacement is the 2420L — the same 3/4 HPs DC chain drive with battery backup, now with a built-in camera and Security+ 3.0 (call to order; 2420L parts). If this page still shows the 81602 as available it is remaining stock; once it is gone we cannot get more. Everything below it — boards, motors, rails, remotes, batteries — is still supplied, so an installed 81602 can be kept running for years. The 2420L uses the same T-rail, chain and trolley as the 81602, so on a like-for-like swap the rail already on the ceiling normally stays.

Common questions
Can I still buy an 81602?
Only while remaining stock lasts. LiftMaster stopped production in September 2025. If you need a like-for-like chain drive with battery backup, the 2420L is the successor; if you would rather move to a belt drive, the 6580L is the next step up.
Will my old remotes work on the new opener?
No. The 2420L and the other new models are Security+ 3.0 (white learn button); the 893LM / 893MAX remotes and 877 keypads are Security+ 2.0. The new openers ship with an L993M or L993S remote, and the L992U universal covers both if you have two generations of opener at one house.
Can I reuse my rail?
On a straight swap to a 2420L, normally yes — it uses the same 1707LM / 1708LM / 1710LM rail, chain and trolley. Check the chain for stretch and the trolley for wear while the head is down.
Does myQ still work on the 81602?
Yes. Discontinuation affects new units, not the app. Boards, batteries and motors are still made.
Which logic board?
The factory board was the 050DCTBMC. LiftMaster now supplies the 050DCTBFMC for it — same board with Bluetooth.
