Yuasa NP7-12 — the 12 V 7 Ah sealed lead-acid battery that LiftMaster, Elite and most other gate-operator makers fit for battery backup and for the DC operators that run on batteries all the time. LiftMaster sells it as 29-NP712 (also written K74-35388-1); the Mega Arm parts list calls it MBAT; Elite calls it ABT12. It is the same NP-series battery in every case: maintenance-free AGM, non-spillable, F1 tab terminals, and the footprint every OEM battery tray was drawn around. Price is per battery; the 24 V operators take two.
How many do you need? A 24 V operator (CSL24, CSW24, LA400, LA500, INSL / IHSL, HDSL / HDSW, Mega Arm) runs two of these in series — always replace both, because a new battery in series with a tired one is dragged down to the tired one's level within weeks. The 12 V operators (RSL12, RSW12, HCTDCU) take one. LiftMaster's K74-30762 is the matched pair with the jumper already fitted.

Check the tab width before you order. This battery has the narrow 0.187 in F1 tabs. If the clips on your harness are the wide 0.250 in type, tell us and we will supply the F2 version or adapters. Other brands use the same battery under their own numbers — GTO / Mighty Mule RB500, Ramset 800-70-00 — and a DoorKing 1801-003 is the 7.2 Ah cousin.
Is the battery actually the problem?
Batteries are blamed for most DC gate complaints, and they are usually guilty. Confirm it:
| Symptom | Check first |
|---|---|
| Gate runs on mains but dies in a power cut | The batteries. Load-test them; a battery that reads 12.6 V at rest and collapses under load is finished |
| Solar or DC operator slow, weak, quits after a few cycles | Batteries first, then the panel output in full sun, then the charger |
| Operator beeps, battery light on | Batteries at end of life or a harness clip off; on LiftMaster boards the alarm is specific to the battery circuit |
| New batteries, still dead in a power cut | The charger circuit on the board or the harness, not the batteries |
| Batteries never reach full charge | The charger — on SL505 / SW425 the 29-40095 dual-stage charger; on board-charged operators the transformer and board |
Fitting
Isolate the operator, note which clip goes to which post, and lift the old batteries out. On a 24 V pair, fit the jumper between the positive of one and the negative of the other, connect the harness to the two free posts, and only then restore power. Let the operator charge for 24 hours before you judge backup performance. Take the old batteries to a recycler — every auto parts store accepts them.
Common questions
Is the LiftMaster 29-NP712 a different battery from the Yuasa NP7-12?
No. 29-NP712 is LiftMaster's stock number for the Yuasa NP7-12 (or an equal NP-series battery). MBAT, K74-35388-1 and Elite's ABT12 are the same battery under other numbers.
Can I fit a bigger battery?
Only where the maker offers it. LiftMaster's 33 Ah option (A12330 single, A12330pack pair) needs the larger tray or the XL control box; the 7 Ah is what fits the standard enclosure.
7 Ah or 7.2 Ah or 8 Ah?
Interchangeable. They share the case and the terminals; the rating difference is within the normal spread.
Why replace both on a 24 V operator?
Series batteries share current. The weak one limits the pair and the strong one overcharges it. Replace in pairs, from the same batch.
How long will it last?
Three to five years on a mains-powered operator with battery backup. On a solar operator cycled daily, expect the low end.
