Chamberlain 950CB - Red & Orange Learn Button

Chamberlain 950CB — Red & Orange Learn Button Remotes

The 950CB is Chamberlain's single-button 390 MHz remote for openers with a red or orange learn button, built roughly between 1997 and 2005. If you only have one door, this is the cheapest way to replace a lost remote.

The 950CB is the same remote LiftMaster sold as the 971LM. Chamberlain owns LiftMaster and Craftsman, and the three brands share one radio platform — only the badge differs. Either part number works on your opener.

Chamberlain to LiftMaster cross-reference

Chamberlain LiftMaster Frequency Learn button
950CB 971LM 390 MHz Red / orange
950D / 950CD 371LM 315 MHz Purple
953D 373LM 315 MHz Purple
953EV / 956EV 893MAX / 890MAX Security+ 2.0 Yellow

The suffix is the giveaway: CB is 390 MHz, D and CD are 315 MHz, EV is Security+ 2.0.

Is my learn button red or orange?

It is on the motor unit, not the wall control — on the back or side, usually beside the antenna wire. If it is a different colour, order from the matching generation:

Programming

1. Press and release the learn button on the motor unit. The LED beside it comes on for about 30 seconds.
2. Within those 30 seconds, press the button on the new remote.
3. The opener light flashes or the unit clicks to confirm. Test the door.

To erase every remote from memory, press and hold the learn button until the LED goes out — around six seconds. That clears all of them, so reprogram every remote you want to keep.

Common questions

Is the 950CB the same as the 971LM? Yes. Same remote, different brand badge. Both run the same 390 MHz format on a red or orange learn button opener.

What does the CB suffix mean? It marks the 390 MHz generation. A 950D or 950CD is the 315 MHz version and will not work on the same opener.

I need more than one button. The 950CB is single-button only. For three buttons on the same opener, use the 893MAX.

My remote stopped working. Change the battery first. It is the cause the overwhelming majority of the time.

It programmed but the range is poor. Check the antenna wire hangs freely from the motor unit and is not coiled up or tucked away.
