Genuine LiftMaster 041D8071-4 travel module — the current number for the 041A7114-7 / 41A7114-7. It is the position sensor on the motor of LiftMaster and Chamberlain DC garage door openers: a small encoder module with its harness that tells the logic board how far the door has moved, so the opener has no mechanical limit switches to drift. When it fails the opener loses its limits, reverses for no reason, or reports a travel-module diagnostic code.
Module or motor? The travel module is sold on its own (this part) and as part of the 041-0236-000 motor with travel module. If the motor runs normally and the fault is position-related — codes 4-3, 4-4 or 4-5, lost limits — fit the module. If the opener hums, runs slowly or stalls (code 1-5), it is usually the motor, and the motor assembly comes with a new module.

Is the travel module the problem?
The travel module and the motor share symptoms. Read the diagnostic code before you order:
| Symptom | Check first |
|---|---|
| Code 4-5 — opener will not move, "unrecognized travel module" | The module: reseat its plug on the logic board, then replace it |
| Code 4-3 or 4-4 — door stops or reverses part way, motor speed lost | Door balance and obstructions first; then the module; then the motor |
| Loses its limits, over-travels, needs re-programming | The module, after checking the door is not binding |
| Code 1-5 — opener hums or clicks, door barely moves | The motor (order the 041-0236-000 motor with module), or the capacitor on AC units |
| Codes 2-1 to 2-5 — no response to any command | The logic board, not the module |
After fitting
Re-program the travel limits and the force, then run the reversal test on a 2×4 laid flat under the door. The opener will not accept a module from a different family (code 4-5), so match the part number to the opener rather than to a photo.
Fit surge protection when you fit electronics. A module that died in a storm often took the board with it. A plug-in surge protector for the opener outlet is cheaper than the second board.
