Genuine LiftMaster / Chamberlain 041A2817 Drive Gear and Worm Kit — the helical drive gear and worm gear with grease, wear bushings, roll pins and hardware that goes into the 1/2 HP (and 1/3 and 3/4 HP) AC chain-drive and belt-drive openers built from 1993 on. When the motor runs but the door does not move and there is white plastic dust on the motor head, the drive gear has stripped and this is the kit. Same part sold as 41A2817, 81B0045, 81C0179, 62216 and 2612159.
Gears only, or gears with the sprocket? The 041A2817 replaces the two gears and leaves the original sprocket and shaft in place — the right kit when the sprocket teeth are sound. If the sprocket is worn, wobbles or the shaft is scored, order the assembly that includes it instead: 041C4220A for chain drives (also 41A2827, 41C4220), 041A4885-5 for belt drives, or 041A5658-1 for the 3/4 HP dual-sprocket chain drives. All three include the same gears as this kit.

Is it the gears?
Plastic dust under the opener is the give-away. Confirm it before you order:

Common questions
Is this the same as the 41C4220A?
No. The 41C4220A is the gear-and-sprocket assembly: these two gears plus the sprocket and shaft on a bearing plate. Order it when the sprocket is worn too.
Does it fit a belt drive?
Yes — the worm and drive gear are the same on the AC belt drives listed above. The belt-drive sprocket assembly is the 041A4885-5.
Why did the gear strip?
An unbalanced or binding door. Unhook the opener and lift the door by hand: it should stay put half-way. If it drops or climbs, fix the springs first or the new gear goes the same way.
