The RAM 100 is a chain-drive slide gate opener rated to 700 lb gates and 20 feet of travel, with a 1/2 HP continuous-duty motor. If you know it as a Ramset R100 gate opener rather than an operator, it is the same unit.
Front installation only. Ramset specifies the RAM 100 for front installations with a tail on the gate. Center and rear installations need a RAM 1000 or RAM 5500 instead — worth knowing before you order a replacement chassis or arm hardware.
Control board notice. The Intelligate board 800-63-00 at reference 23 is discontinued. Current path is the ETL set — 800-65-01 logic (specify AC or DC), 800-65-02 AC driver, 800-65-05 DC driver — or the 800-76-50 upgrade kit.

Common Ramset RAM 100 Faults and the Parts That Fix Them
Most calls we take about the RAM 100 come down to one of the following. Work through them in the order given — the cheap checks come first on purpose.
Gate overruns, stops short, or will not stop
Travel is set by adjustment nuts running on a threaded limit shaft, not by cams. Check the two limit switches (ref 11), then the limit shaft assembly (ref 36) — worn nuts, seized bearings or a slipped collar all throw the setting out. The spring-loaded bracket (ref 19) must free the nuts when depressed.

Gate stalls, slips or has lost pulling force
The RAM 100 drives through a clutch (ref 32). The 4-pin disc and spring are the wear items, and the clutch can be rebuilt component by component rather than replaced whole. Do not over-tighten the clutch to compensate for a gate that is dragging.

Chain slack, jumping the sprocket, or the gate judders
Check the idler wheel (ref 34) first — the UHMW wheel wears oval and stops taking up slack. Then the drive sprocket (ref 8) for hooked teeth. Fitting new chain to a worn sprocket will not last.

Foot pedal will not release, or the gate will not re-engage
The foot pedal is the RAM 100's emergency release. The release fork (ref 16) and its return spring (ref 14) are what wear. Note the operator will not respond at all until the gate is properly re-engaged.

Nothing happens, or the gate runs a couple of feet and reverses
No lights at all means the transformer (ref 21) or a blown fuse. If it runs then reverses, that is the ERD reading an obstruction — check the gate rolls freely before adjusting sensitivity. If the wall button works but the remote does not, it is the radio receiver terminal (ref 25).

None of this is a substitute for a service call on a gate that is binding, dragging, or riding badly on its rollers or track. A mechanical problem in the gate will destroy whichever part you fit.
