Genuine LiftMaster CAP2D — the Smart Access 2-Door Controller: a cloud-managed access panel that runs two gates, doors, elevators or commercial door operators from the myQ Community platform. Two Wiegand reader inputs, four relays, request-to-exit and door-position inputs, 25,000 credentials held locally so the gate keeps working through an internet outage, and a 6,000-event history. It connects over Ethernet or PoE, with a cellular option, and it needs no wiring to other controllers — every CAP2D on a site is networked through the cloud.
Where it fits. The CAP2D is the panel you add when a site needs credentialed access at an entrance that has no intercom: a rear vehicle gate, a pool or clubhouse door, a parking garage. It takes a keypad, a card reader or the LMSC1000 long-range RFID reader on each of its two inputs and shares residents and credentials with the site's CAPXLV2 / CAPXM intercom through myQ Community. For a single door with app access only, the CAPAC hub is the lighter option.

What connects to it
| Device | Notes |
|---|---|
| LMSC1000 | Long-range RFID reader — hands-free vehicle entry, 26-bit Wiegand |
| Wiegand keypads and card readers | Any 26 / 30 / 32 / 37-bit reader; LiftMaster and third-party |
| CAPXLV2 / CAPXM / CAPXS | Smart video intercoms on the same myQ Community account — one resident database |
| CAPAC | Smart access hub for further doors |
| Gate operators | Any operator with a dry-contact open input — LiftMaster slide, swing, DoorKing, Elite and the rest |
| Electric strikes and maglocks | On the wet or dry relay contacts, within the ratings above |
Power it properly. The CAP2D is shipped without a power supply. Use PoE from a listed switch or injector, or a UL-listed Class 2 12 VDC supply rated at least 1.5 A and not shared with the strike or the gate operator. A brown-out at the panel shows up as random access denials before it shows up as a dead panel.
Is the controller actually the problem?
A CAP2D rarely fails on its own. Work down this list before you order:
| Symptom | Check first |
|---|---|
| Panel dead, no LEDs | The power supply or PoE budget, then the fuse on the supply, then the panel |
| Reader reads but the panel never releases | Reader wiring (D0 / D1 swapped or grounds missing), then the credential format setting, then the relay assignment in myQ Community |
| Works, then denies everyone | Internet down and the local credential list out of date, or the panel time wrong — check the network before the panel |
| Relay clicks, gate does not open | The operator's input wiring and its own fault, not the CAP2D |
| Dead after a storm | The panel — and fit surge protection on the supply and the reader lines with the new one |
Common questions
Is a subscription required?
Yes — the CAP2D is programmed and monitored through a myQ Community account for the site. There is no local programming mode.
Can it run a gate and a door?
Yes. Each of the two channels is independent: reader input, REX, door position and relays.
Does it replace the intercom?
No. It has no call or video function. It adds credentialed doors to a site that already has a CAPXLV / CAPXM intercom, or gives a rear entrance card and RFID access on its own.
Ethernet or cellular?
Ethernet or PoE wherever a cable can reach. The CAPCELL modem is for a gate with power and no data.
How many controllers can a site have?
As many as it needs. They share the resident database through myQ Community and need no wiring between them.
