Genuine Ramset replacement parts for the RAM 5500 slide gate operator, listed against the factory parts diagram above. Find the reference number on the drawing, match it in the table below and click the part number to order. Assembly breakdowns follow the main list, so you can buy a complete assembly or just the one component inside it that failed.
The RAM 5500 is the heavy-duty machine in the Ramset chain-drive slide range, rated to 45 feet of travel with a continuous-duty motor. If you know it as a Ramset R5500 gate opener rather than an operator, it is the same unit.
Two versions — check your motor first. The RAM 5500 was built in two ratings and they differ only by motor:
RAM 5500-3/4 — 3/4 HP, 8.5 amp, gates to 1,500 lbs, motor 800-04-01 at reference 6.
RAM 5500-1 — 1 HP, 9.4 amp, gates to 2,500 lbs, motor 800-04-02 at reference 7.
Every other part on this page fits both. The rating is on the motor plate and on the label inside the cover.
Gear reducer superseded. Ramset has discontinued 800-02-06 (Size 60, Ratio 30:1). The current replacement is 800-02-51, Size 60 Ratio 40:1 — that is the part linked at reference 4 below.
Control board notice. The Intelligate board 800-63-00 at reference 23 is discontinued. Current path is the ETL set — 800-65-01 logic (specify AC or DC), 800-65-02 AC driver, 800-65-05 DC driver — or the 800-76-50 upgrade kit.

Most calls we take about the RAM 5500 come down to one of the following. Work through them in the order given — the cheap checks come first on purpose.
Travel is set by adjustment nuts on a threaded limit shaft, driven by a short #41 limit chain (ref 18). Check the two limit switches (ref 12), then the limit chain for stretch or a jumped link, then the limit shaft assembly (ref 37). The spring-loaded bracket (ref 20) must free the nuts when depressed.

Check the thermal overload button on the back of the motor first. Then confirm the machine is rated for the gate: the 3/4 HP version is good to 1,500 lbs and the 1 HP to 2,500 lbs. A gate that has grown heavier, or rollers that have stiffened, will cook a motor that was correctly sized when installed.

The foot pedal acts on the clutch release assembly (ref 33). The release fork (ref 17), its return spring (ref 14) and the 4-pin disc inside the clutch are what wear. The operator will not respond at all until the gate is properly re-engaged.

Check both idler wheels (ref 35) — the UHMW wheels wear oval and stop taking up slack, and the sleeve bushing wears with them. Then the drive sprocket (ref 9) for hooked teeth. On a 2,500 lb gate the chain and sprocket wear noticeably faster than on the lighter machines.

No lights at all means the transformer (ref 21), the rocker switch (ref 22) or a blown fuse. If it runs then reverses, that is the ERD reading an obstruction — check the gate rolls freely before touching the sensitivity. If the wall button works but the remote does not, it is the radio receiver terminal (ref 25).

None of this is a substitute for a service call on a gate that is binding, dragging, or riding badly on its rollers or track. A mechanical problem in the gate will destroy whichever part you fit.
The RAM 5500 shares its chassis, clutch, limit shaft, idler wheels and chain kit with the RAM 1000 — only the motor differs. The RAM 100 and RAM 50 are smaller machines with their own chassis and #41 chain. If you are not certain which unit you have, check the label inside the cover.
Ramset part numbers all begin 800- and are stamped or labelled on most major components. If the number on your part has worn off, match it visually against the diagram above and confirm the reference number rather than going by the description alone — several Ramset gate openers use similar looking parts in different sizes.
