Linear LDCO801 Garage Door Head Unit Only, no rails

The Linear LDCO801 is a DC-powered garage door opener head unit — the motor only, with no rail, chain or sprocket. It is the current replacement for Linear's earlier head units, and it reuses the rail, trolley and door arm you already have.

Which Linear head units does this replace?

Linear discontinued a long list of head units over the years. The LDCO801 is what replaces them. Find your old model below — in every case the LDCO801 mounts to the same rail and works with the same MegaCode remotes, so nothing else on the installation changes.

Will it fit my rail?

The LDCO801 works with belt drive or chain drive rails, T-rail or I-beam, up to 10 ft — which covers standard 7, 8 and 10 ft door setups, including the rails fitted to the older LDO and LSO head units.

Check the rail before you order. A new head unit on a bent, twisted or worn rail will fight it and fail early. If the trolley is loose, the chain has stretched past adjustment, or the rail has visible damage, replace the whole assembly rather than the motor alone.

Will my old remotes still work?

The built-in receiver is MegaCode, so any Linear MegaCode remote programs to it — including the ones you have been using on an LDO50, LSO50 or LDCO800. The unit ships with an MCT-3 three-button visor remote and a wall station as well.

Who makes Linear?

Linear is now part of Nice, the Italian access and automation group. Current units appear badged either way, and the Nice 661 is the same family under the newer brand. Parts and remotes carry across.

Is it any good?

An honest answer, since people ask.

The LDCO801 is a solid DC head unit. Soft start and soft stop mean it does not slam the door at either end, which is easier on the door hardware and quieter than the older AC units it replaces. The self-adjusting torque saves the fiddly force-setting routine.

Where it differs from a LiftMaster: this is a head unit, not a complete opener, and it has no built-in battery backup or app control. If you want phone control, the LDCO863B or Nice 661 are the smart versions. For a complete opener with battery backup included, see the LiftMaster range.

The case for the LDCO801 is straightforward: you have a working Linear rail and a dead motor, and replacing the motor costs a fraction of a full opener.

Installation and warranty

Swapping a head unit is roughly an hour's work if the rail stays. The trolley disconnects, the old motor comes off the header bracket, the new one goes on, and the safety sensors and wall station reconnect. Set the travel limits, program the remotes, and test the reverse on an obstruction before you leave it.

Common questions

Does it come with a rail? No. Head unit only — no rail, chain or drive sprocket. It reuses your existing rail.

Will it replace my LDO50 / LDO33 / LSO50 / LCO75 / LDCO800? Yes, all of them. See the table above.

Do I need new remotes? No, if yours are Linear MegaCode. An MCT-3 and a wall station are included anyway.

What size door will it handle? 800 Newtons covers standard residential doors including heavier insulated ones. Rails up to 10 ft, so 7, 8 and 10 ft doors are all fine.

Does it have battery backup? Not built in, but it takes the BBU battery backup unit, sold separately. California and Washington require battery backup on residential openers — check your local requirement.

Can I control it from my phone? Not this model. The LDCO863B and Nice 661 are the smart versions.

Can I install it myself? Physically yes, but the manufacturer warranty requires professional installation.

Is the bulb included? No. It takes a standard 100 watt bulb.
