Nice Apollo MX5421-P motor retrofit kit — the current replacement for the discontinued 73090005 gearmotor on Vanguard 3501 and 3601 swing gate operators. A complete kit: motor, chain, sprocket and terminal block, supplied together so the operator goes back together in one visit.
Replaces 73090005. The original gearmotor is no longer made. This kit is what Apollo supplies in its place, and it upgrades the operator to the Mercury 310 board at the same time.

Running a 1050US controller? The new motor wires to it and the operator works normally — but the motor encoder wires will not connect to the terminal block, because the 1050US cannot use the encoder. Nothing is broken; you simply do not get encoder feedback. If you want it, the board needs to go to Mercury 310. See the Apollo 1050US control board.

Why the whole kit rather than a motor
Apollo changed the motor, the drive chain and the sprocket together, so the new motor will not run on the old chain and sprocket. Supplying them as a kit is what stops a half-finished job — you are not waiting on a chain after the operator is already apart.
Common questions
My gearmotor is a 73090005. Is this the right part? Yes. The 73090005 is discontinued and this kit replaces it.
Do I need a new board as well? The kit upgrades you to Mercury 310. If you are staying on a 1050US, the motor still works — you just lose encoder feedback. See the warning above.
How do I know if my operator takes Mercury 310? Look for a 2" × 5" label above the model identification section on the operator box.
Can I reuse my existing chain and sprocket? No. The new motor uses the chain and sprocket supplied in the kit.
Does it fit a 3601 as well as a 3501? Yes, both.
