Genuine LiftMaster L979U universal wireless keypad — one keypad for most brands of opener made since 1993. It covers every LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Craftsman generation including the green-button Billion Code openers of 1993–1997 that the L979M does not, plus Genie Intellicode, Linear MegaCode, Stanley SecureCode, Wayne Dalton, Sommer, Guardian and Ryobi. Illuminated keys, temporary PIN, 9 V battery included. Chamberlain sells the same keypad as the CHU48.
When to buy the L979U instead of the L979M. Your opener has a green learn button, or it is not a Chamberlain Group brand, or you have two different brands on one driveway. If every opener is LiftMaster / Chamberlain / Craftsman with a white, yellow, purple or red/orange button, the L979M does the same job.

Common questions
Will it run a 1993–1997 green-button opener?
Yes — that is the reason to pick it over the L979M. Openers older than that have DIP switches and no learn button; no current keypad talks to them.
Does it work with Genie?
Yes, Genie Intellicode openers from 1995 onward, and Overhead Door CodeDodger. It does not do the older Genie 9- or 12-DIP-switch units.
Does one-touch close work on a Genie or Linear?
No. One-touch close is a Chamberlain Group feature (openers 1997 onward). On other brands you enter the PIN to close.
How do I program it?
Press and release the learn button on the opener, then enter the 4-digit PIN you want on the keypad and press ENTER. The opener light flashes or the receiver clicks to confirm. The full step-by-step, including temporary PINs and multiple openers, is in the leaflet in the box.
What battery does it take?
One 9 V alkaline, included. Expect a year or more; the LED dims and the keypad gets sluggish when it is low.
