Common Ramset RAM 300 Faults and the Parts That Fix Them

Most calls we take about the RAM 300 come down to one of the following. Work through them in the order given — the cheap checks come first on purpose.

Gate runs past the open or closed position, or will not stop

Start with the two limit switches (ref 25), then the 1" limit cams (ref 37) and the limit switch bracket (ref 41). A cam that has slipped on the shaft is the most common cause.

Foot pedal release will not disengage, or will not latch

This is the RAM 300's manual release. Look at the foot pedal release (ref 28), its switch (ref 26), the return spring (ref 27) and the two brackets (refs 45 and 46).

Gate stops on light contact, or has lost all holding force

The RAM 300 has two separate force components: the torque limiter (ref 66) and the clutch release assembly (ref 67). Both can be rebuilt from the breakdowns below rather than replaced whole.

Motor runs but the gate is slow or does not move

Check the 4L-380 drive belt (ref 20) for glazing or slack, then the drive chain (ref 39), then the flange bearings (ref 33) on the output shaft for play.

Nothing happens at all when you press the remote

Work back from the power in: transformer (ref 48) and rocker switch (ref 49), then the control board (ref 50) and its edge connector (ref 51). If the wall button works but the remote does not, it is the radio receiver terminal (ref 52).
