Common Ramset RAM 30 Faults and the Parts That Fix Them

Most calls we take about the RAM 30 come down to one of the following. Work through them in the order given — the cheap checks come first on purpose.

Gate runs past the open or closed position, or will not stop

Start with the two limit switches (ref 25), then the 3/4" limit cams (ref 36) and the limit shaft collars (ref 57). A cam that has slipped on the shaft is the most common cause, and a set screw is often all that is wrong.

Motor hums but the gate does not move

On the RAM 30 this is usually the motor start capacitor (ref 10) or a slipping drive belt (ref 19). Check the belt tension first — it is the cheaper part and the easier test.

Gate stops on light contact, or has lost all holding force

The torque limiter (ref 65) sets how much force the gate applies before it gives. Its friction discs wear and the assembly can be rebuilt rather than replaced whole.

Nothing happens at all when you press the remote

Work back from the power in: transformer (ref 48), then the control board (ref 50) and its edge connector (ref 51). If the operator runs from the wall button but not the remote, it is the radio receiver terminal (ref 52).

Drive chain jumping or noisy

Check the 22-link drive chain (ref 38) and the drive sprocket (ref 11), and inspect the sealed bearings (ref 34) for play.
