DoorKing 1800-080 Cellular Voice & Data Box
The 1800-080 lets you get rid of the copper phone line at your gate. It gives your DoorKing telephone entry system its own cellular connection on the AT&T 4G LTE network, so the system still calls residents, still lets visitors in, and can still be programmed remotely — with no landline at all.
Why properties are dropping their gate phone lines
DoorKing's own position is blunt: they no longer recommend POTS lines for entry system programming or voice communication. The telecom infrastructure is moving to digital and fibre, and some of those networks do not support modem communication at all. DoorKing stopped providing technical support for PC-modem-to-entry-system communication failures back in January 2017.
On top of that, a business POTS line is now one of the more expensive things on a property's bill, and repair times on a buried copper fault have stretched badly. On a gated property, a dead phone line means visitors cannot get in and residents start propping the gate open.
What the cellular service costs
The hardware is a one-time purchase. The service is a monthly DKS Cellular subscription with no long-term contract, billed by usage tier. There is a one-time $45.00 activation fee per control box, and a $2.00 per month discount if you set up autopay.
Voice + Data plans — the normal choice, because it covers both resident calls and remote programming:
| Voice minutes / month | Data transfers / month | Monthly fee |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 100 | Up to 6 | $49.95 |
| 101 – 450 | 7 – 60 | $62.95 |
| 451 – 1,200 | 61 – 90 | $75.95 |
| 1,201 – 2,500 | 91 – 120 | $88.95 |
| 2,501 + | 121 + | $97.95 |
Voice only plans — if you programme the system on site and only need it to make calls:
| Voice minutes / month | Monthly fee |
|---|---|
| Up to 100 | $44.95 |
| 101 – 450 | $54.95 |
| 451 – 1,200 | $63.95 |
| 1,201 – 2,500 | $76.95 |
| 2,500 + | $86.95 |
Data only plans — programming without voice, used with the 1838-081 and 1838-095 access controllers:
| Data transfers / month | Monthly fee |
|---|---|
| Up to 60 | $39.95 |
| 61 – 120 | $52.95 |
| 121 + | $65.95 |
How the tiers actually work — read this before you pick a plan. Billing moves on either voice minutes or data transfers. Go over on one and you move up a tier for that billing period, so your bill can vary month to month. A data transfer counts as receiving data, sending data, or receiving transactions — so a manager who pushes a resident update every day will use more than one who does it monthly. Plans include all taxes, fees and long distance.

Cellular, ethernet or keep the copper?
Cellular is not always the cheapest answer. If you have internet within 330 feet of the entrance, ethernet is less per month.
| Option | Hardware | From | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cellular | 1800-080 | $49.95/mo voice + data | No cable run to the gate, or the entrance is too far from the building |
| Ethernet, voice + data | 2334-080 | $38.95/mo or $428.45/yr | Network reaches the entrance — cheapest full-feature option |
| Ethernet, voice only | 1815-578 | $33.95/mo or $373.45/yr | Replacing a POTS line on a system you programme on site |
Ethernet runs are limited to 330 feet (100 m). Beyond that you need a switch part way, or cellular. That distance is what decides it on most properties — measure before you choose.
The DKS Cloud is now included
Any DoorKing connection subscription — cellular, VoIP or IM Server — now includes the DKS Cloud at no additional cost. Programme and manage the system from a laptop, tablet or phone with an internet connection. A dedicated PC with the desktop software is no longer needed. Software programming support by phone, chat and email is also included with any subscription, which is worth noting: on a direct RS-232 or modem connection that support costs $49.95 a year.
