LiftMaster Passport — Remotes & Access Control
Passport is LiftMaster's access control platform for gated communities, apartment complexes, commercial sites and anywhere a lot of people need to open the same gate. It runs on Security+ 2.0 rolling code, and the remotes come in low-cost formats designed to be handed out in volume rather than sold one at a time.
If you manage a property, this is the range built for you. If you are a resident who has been given a Passport remote and lost it, see the note further down — you may need to go through your property manager.
Which Passport remote do I need?

What does the PH suffix mean? Proximity. A PH remote has a prox tag built in, so one device operates the gate by radio and badges at a card reader — residents carry one credential instead of two. The prox format has to match the reader on the property, so check before ordering in volume.

Receivers
The receiver is what turns a gate operator into a Passport system. Capacity is the deciding factor — size it for the number of residents plus turnover.

Antennas — get the range right
On a community gate the receiver is usually in a metal enclosure, which is the worst place for an antenna. If residents complain they have to pull right up to the gate before it opens, the antenna is almost always the cause rather than the remotes.

The stand-alone Passport proximity line is discontinued. The readers, kits, programmer and cards are no longer made. The radio side of Passport — remotes and receivers — is unaffected and fully supported. If you are running a Passport prox installation and need to expand or replace hardware, call us before you plan the job; the replacement path depends on what you already have on site.
Common questions
I live in a gated community and lost my Passport remote. On most Passport systems the remote has to be enrolled by whoever manages the gate, so start with your property manager or HOA. They will tell you which model the site uses and whether they order them or you do.
What is the difference between Passport Lite and Passport MAX? Lite is the low-cost single-button hand-out remote. MAX is the three-button version for people who need to open more than one thing.
Do I need proximity? Only if the property has card readers as well as a gate radio. If residents badge at a pedestrian gate or a clubhouse door, a PH remote saves them carrying a second credential.
How many remotes will a receiver hold? The Star1000 holds 1,000 transmitters. Size for your resident count plus turnover — running out of memory mid-year is an avoidable headache.
Is Passport compatible with Security+ 2.0? Yes. Passport runs on Security+ 2.0 rolling code.
Range is poor at the gate. Check the antenna before replacing anything. An 86LM or 86LMT gets it out of the metal enclosure.
