I can finally open the garage door from more than 2 feet away. It was driving me absolutely crazy before this. Someone noted I would need to extend antenna to use with my system, but I didnÂ’t have to. Coax was too short to run where I wanted, but that also didnÂ’t matter, and we decided to just try it as far as it would go to start, without modifying antenna, and it did jut what I needed it to do.
Excellent product it does the trick. I do suggest that the connection between the coax and the resident antenna be soldered. I made up a 6" coax link and soldered both the coax connector and the ground shield. I then connected the female end of the antenna coax to the coax stub with a male adapter. I It makes for a much more professional installation and loss of signal strength. Thanks Lee Parmeter 228-324-8753
This kit isn't ready to install; you have to make some modifications to the included coax cable. For the price, I would not have expected that. It took about 30 minutes to complete the installation. It certainly fixed the range issue we were having with the stock garage door antenna. While it previously wouldn't open consistently when my car was just beyond the closed garage door, it now opens from several houses away.
Followed the modification advice of James K to use with my 315MHZ Craftsman opener and it works like a charm. I can now open the door from the driveway.
kit was as specified. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. However, this did not fix my reception problems even with trying different antenna lengths. Also, coax supplied was barely not long enough to route thru the attic to external wall or a discrete location.
We live in a house constructed with real stucco on metal. We had wrestled with intermittent poor performance of our Chamberlain garage door opener for years, but the problem seemed to have worsened. It was especially bad in damp weather, even in high humidity at times. The problem was compounded by a metal/insulated garage door. Having to get out of the car and move closer with the clicker had become a pain in the posterior, especially for my wife, and on our sloping driveway. I knew the problem was electronic; not mechanical.
After an on-line search I found the Antenna Extender Kit. It installed easily (up into attic above garage door opener and down through the roof overhang) just outside the garage door. Works beautifully! My wife loves me again.
The title says it all.
This extender kit needed to be modified to work with my Chamberlain 315 MHz garage door opener & remote. The remote stopped working when I plugged in a couple of RF remote control devices, due to interference.
The antenna length of 7.25" is designed for older 390 MHz openers. I changed the length to 8.9" by soldering on a piece of rigid wire; one could probably just clamp it. Instead of going to all the trouble of stripping the coax to make a ground connection, I just plugged to coax into a grounding block grounded to the opener case. I got excellent reception at a distance by mounting the antenna inside the garage on the wall above the metal garage door (since wall is not metal, did not need to drill hole through wall to get outside).
The kit is overpriced for what it contains (15' coax, antenna with BNC adapter, mounting flange ), but the cost is cheap to get a working remote again.
Very fast Shipment, but antenna did not help for garage door opener.
I mounted this directly on the housing of the garage door opener, and did not bother to even run the cable anywhere. It still gave me the boost I needed to get into my garage. I'm sure if I ran the thing the way they instruct, I'd be able to raise the door from down the street- but since I only wanted the door to open when I reach the driveway, and it was not doing so before (I had to hold my clicker out the car window), this was the perfect solution, and easier to install than I thought it would be- having a cheap pair of wire strippers is helpful.
It is a great product and made our life a lot easier.
